In our FAQ's, we have 3 sections: Standard, Reseller and Server (Dedicated and Semi-Dedicated).

Please choose one of the options:

How do I log into cPanel?

To log into cPanel, you simply type your domain name and at the end put '/cpanel'. Press enter and a box should appear. Fill this in with your login details and you will be redirected to your cPanel.

What is standard web-hosting?

Standard web hosting is just normal hosting, you can host your website on it and sell things at no extra cost. We call it standard hosting because we also offer reseller hosting and it makes it easier to distinguish which is which.

What is shared hosting?

Also referred to a virtual hosting, this form of web hosting should suffice for most everyone.

Shared hosting simple refers to the fact that your site is on one server, and that this server hosts mulitple sites. You are virtually shared - your site will not be the only one on this specific server.

Another host offers free unlimited storage and bandwidth; why not go with them?

We recommend not to go with these companies as there are often clauses attached which can lead to phishing for your bank details or spam your email address with thousands of emails a week.

It is also impossible to offer unlimited space and bandwidth as there will always be some limit on the amount of something. The host may also use the design of your site and sell it, making money without you even knowing anything!

What is bandwidth?

Bandwidth/Transfer is the amount of data the server will allow your site to send in a month. Transfer is usually measured in gigabytes - billions of bytes. Once you go over your monthly limit, your site may not function properly. If this happens, just email us and we will borrow you some bandwidth until the end of the month.

Can I put flash on my site?

Flash is a client side feature - it runs on the user's computer, not on your hosting space. As long as the user's browser has the correct plugin installed, it will run on their computer.

Can I track the visits to my site?

You can track your sites users using some software found within cPanel called AwStats. This is really helpful for market research etc.

What are sub-domains?

Consider subdomains as an extension of your domain. For example, your site is www.example.com. A subdomain would be test.example.com, and another would be hello.example.com.

Subdomains are usually treated as separate sites from the main domain site.

What is uptime?

Uptime is the amount of time our servers are online per year. We currently offer 99.9% uptime, meaning our server goes off for 1 hour every year.

I have found cheaper hosting, why not go with them?

With most hosts, you will find that cheap hosting doesn't give you a control panel or good service from your host. With Mantis Hosting we have many happy clients and can afford to offer affordable hosting to everyone, and can give you a control panel (cPanel) and a service with a (virtual) smile. The more clients we get, the cheaper the prices get for everyone!

What is the difference between standard and reseller accounts?

The difference with reseller accounts is that you can 're-sell' your webspace, making money from it. This could be for a website design company or a hosting company. If your company does well, you can easilly upgrade to a semi or dedicated server.

Are your servers hosting in the UK?

Mantis Hosting has its main servers based in it's own data centre in Liverpool, England, but our back-up servers are hosted in another data-centre in Florida, United States. We also host any websites that aren't in Europe on our American server for maximum efficiency.

Don't worry though! All of our servers have somebody ready to fix something if it breaks. We do 99.9% uptime afterall!

Would my reseller clients have cpanel and webmail?

Yes, they would have what you allow them. You can read more here.

How do I add domains?

You could purchase domains through Mantis, or get them from another host. However, with another host you will need to change the tag to ENOM and the name servers to the ones listed in your welcome email.
